Abstract:
A method for reprojecting images into sinograms includes the steps of dividing a two-dimensional image into sub-images as small as one pixel and reprojecting the sub-images at a smaller number of orientations to form subsinograms. These sub-sinograms are then successively aggregated and processed to form a full sinogram. The method uses two algorithms to aggregate the sub-sinograms. In one algorithm, the aggregation is exact, and in the other algorithm, aggregation is an approximation. The first algorithm is accurate, but relatively slow, and the second algorithm is faster, but less accurate. By performing some aggregations with the exact algorithm and some aggregations with the approximate algorithm, switching between the two algorithms in one of a number of suitable ways, an accurate result can be obtained quickly.

Abstract:
Method, system and program product are provided implementing a technique for backprojecting an image from a projection data set. The technique includes splitting the projection data set into a plurality of multi-channel textures, with each multi-channel texture corresponding to a predetermined number of color channels of a multi-color rendering engine. The multi-color rendering engine is employed to simultaneously render the split projection data set and obtain intermediate results for each color channel. The intermediate results of each color channel are then accumulated to generate separate rendered images, wherein multiple images are simultaneously rendered from the projection data set using the separate color channels of the multi-color rendering engine.

Abstract:
Methods for projecting and backprojecting rays with respect to pixels/detector bins to attenuate/eliminate high-frequency artifacts, are disclosed. The first two methods are adaptations of pixel-driven and ray-driven linear interpolation techniques respectively. In these techniques, the window or shadow of each pixel/bin is dynamically adjusted and projected onto the detector bin/pixel to eliminate gaps between the shadows. This allows the effect of each pixel on a given detector bin (or vice versa) to be appropriately weighted. A third is a distance-driven technique wherein the transitions of the pixels and the detector bins are respectively projected onto a common axis. This allows a determination of the contribution of each of the pixels/bins for each of the bins/pixels with lower computation time and improved artifact free images.

A method for refining image data from measured projection data acquired from a computed tomographic scanner is provided. Initially, measured projection data from the computed tomographic scanner is received. The measured projection data is reconstructed to generate initial reconstructed image data. The initial reconstructed image data is partitioned into a plurality of volumes based on image data quality, to generate partitioned reconstructed image data. Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for determining a geometry of a scanning volumetric computed tomographic (CT) system having a rotation axis, a rotational plane, an x-ray source and a detector. The method includes scanning a phantom having a series of spatially separated discrete markers with the scanning volumetric computed tomographic system, wherein the markers are configured on a supporting structure of the phantom so as to permit separate identification of each marker in a collection of projection images. The method further includes locating images of the markers in each projection, using the located marker images to assign marker locations to tracks, and using the assigned tracks, determining a relative alignment between the detector, the source, and the rotation axis of the scanning volumetric computed tomographic system.
